- Speaking of GOG. GOG removes all DRM, so any game they sell will not have an DRM related issue.
- What mods ? I suggested two changes to the games graphics setup options which are not available in
the games setup screen. These are game settings, not mods. I did mention not needing them myself, and
the game will run on my Win10 machine with or without Frame Buffering, and either in full screen or windowed,
Kotor 2 Not Working On Windows 10 Asus Laptop
but apparently one, or both do help some people, so you need to use whichever option works for you.
- Enabling EAX sound on a system that does not use EAX can also crash some games.
- To verify I have no issue with starting a new game after character creation, I just moved my save folder to the desktop (renaming with a 1a at the front as I usually do didn't prevent the game from accessing it),
Kotor 1 Windows 10 Fix
and I had no problem starting the game from the beginning.
Win10 does block older disk based games that used SafeDisk copy protection, and with these games you
need to use a noCD fix/hack, but this is not one of them.
I just had a look and see KOTR uses SecuROM copy protection, which has plenty of issues on it's own.
One of those issues is, some versions of SecuROM are not compatible with 64bit versions of Windows,
so these games have required using a noCD on any 64bit version of Windows since XP.
- Looking again, it seems I may be using a noCD fix with this game. I just tried to launch the game using the
LaunchKOTR.exe and it popped up a message to insert the CD, so it looks like I may not have kept a copy of the
noCD fix as I normally do.
Or maybe not ? The noCD fix swkotr.exe is 13.1MB, but the swkotr.exe in my games folder is only 3.85MB.
Kotor 2 Has Stopped Working Windows 10
The noCD fix also comes with a swkotr.bak file which is not present in the games folder.
Best weapons in rimworld. - However, the game launches without the CD if I use the StarWars-KOTR.exe or the swkotr.exe .
( I also didn't try the swkotr.exe yesterday, and I'd forgotten that you can enable/disable Frame Buffering in the
games menu. It's only the full screen option that requires you to use the .ini file. )
Interestingly, when I use the disk and launch the game with the LaunchKOTR.exe, it either does not start,
or stops loading after the first screen.
- Have you run the Analyse your computer option that comes up with the splash screen when you launch
using the LaunchKOTR.exe ? Are the results positive ?
'graphics card has updated driver information.'
- I don't know what you mean by 'driver information', but if you have not been able to download a
Win10 specific graphics driver from the mfg of the card that you have yet to give the brand and model of
( I doubt any card with only 1GB VRAM has a Win10 driver), your graphics processor
is not likely to be running optimally.
If after running the Analyse your computer option if you get a negative result I reckon not having a proper
Win10 driver would be high probability why.
The generic driver installed by Win10 is not adequate for gaming, in spite of what MS marketing may say.
That you cannot get beyond the character creation screen, and into the actual game graphics, where the
gpu actually starts doing some work, may be an indication of this.
- To a lesser extent the same applies to motherboard drivers. The audio, and cpu/chipset drivers in particular.
It is because there are no WIn10 motherboard drivers that my older machine ( AMD PhenomII 965) is still on Win7. Gigabyte does not have Win10 specific chipset or audio drivers for this machines motherboard.
The graphics (GTX770) does have Win10 drivers but, personally, it's just not worth the potential hassle of stuffing around with problems that may result from not having Win10 drivers, and which may not be identified by an
accurate error message that points to a driver issue.
There is enough on a gaming machine without taking unnecessary risks with what is termed
'Legacy' hardware. Win10 just does not have that much going for it, particularly on machines
that are not DX12 capable, to be worth the trouble.
Always make a backup of the files that are overwritten by the File Archive, as the original files are usually required to update the game to a newer version or to play Online!
Some No-CD/Fixed EXE files work fine in Single Player mode but are detected to be modified when trying to play online. When this happens use the original EXE to play online, else you could find yourself banned from the game!
When using Fixed Files make sure to use a Firewall which controls outgoing traffic, as some games call back to report the use of these modified files!
Some original games do not work when a certain application has been installed, like DAEMON Tools. In most cases using a No-CD or Fixed EXE will solve this problem!
Some Game Trainers are sometimes reported to be a Virus or Trojan, the most common is a keylogger called HotKeysHook or the file has been packed/protected with VMProtect or Themida and is recognized as Win32/Packed.VMProtect or Win32/Packed.Themida. In ALL cases this is a FALSE ALARM as NONE of the Game Trainers @ GCW contain known malicious code! More info in the PC Games FAQ!
If you have problems using a trainer in combination with Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 10 then make sure to run the trainer with Administrator rights and when needed in Windows XP or Windows 98 compatibility mode!
ALL available trainers are for Single Player/Offline use ONLY! Don't try to use them online else your account can/will be banned/closed!
